Amaechi Remains Your Political Boss, Eze Fires Back at Wike

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Barr. Nyesom Wike, (Right) and former Rivers State Governor, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi.

PORT HARCOURT/Nigeria: A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and former National Publicity Secretary of the defunct New Peoples Democratic Party (nPDP), Chief Eze Chukwuemeka Eze, has launched a scathing attack on the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Barr. Nyesom Wike, describing him as “ingratitude and betrayal personified” over his recent comments against former Rivers State Governor, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi.

Eze, in a strongly worded statement issued at the weekend, reacted to Wike’s claim that Amaechi had become “a shadow of himself” politically, insisting that the former Minister of Transportation remained far ahead of Wike in political relevance, leadership, and personal conduct.

The ADC stalwart stated that Amaechi was too refined, decent, and civilised to engage in a public exchange of words with Wike, whom he accused of promoting what he described as “motor park and gutter politics.”

According to Eze, Wike owes his political rise largely to Amaechi, who appointed him as Chief of Staff and later nominated him for ministerial office before paving the way for him to emerge as Governor of Rivers State.

“The records are there; honestly, Wike can never in his lifetime, no matter his insults, blackmail and position today, attempt to alter, delete or even surpass Amaechi’s father-figure role in his political career,” Eze stated.

He further alleged that Wike was being tolerated by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and President Bola Tinubu because of what he described as his “nuisance value” in destabilising the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Eze accused the FCT Minister of betraying the PDP despite benefiting immensely from the party’s structure and leadership, alleging that Wike collaborated with APC leaders to weaken the opposition for selfish political interests.

The former nPDP spokesman also dismissed Wike’s claim of being politically stronger than Amaechi, saying the former Rivers governor was not fit “even in his wildest dreams” to untie Amaechi’s sandals.

He argued that Amaechi’s refusal to engage in violent political struggles in Rivers State should not be mistaken for weakness, insisting that true leadership was not measured by intimidation or political aggression.

Eze maintained that Amaechi would always remain Wike’s political benefactor and mentor regardless of present political alignments, adding that the former transportation minister’s contributions to Rivers State in sectors such as education, agriculture, and healthcare were allegedly dismantled by the Wike administration.

The ADC chieftain also accused Wike of insulting virtually every political figure who contributed to his rise, including former Rivers State Governor Dr. Peter Odili, former President Goodluck Jonathan, and the PDP leadership.

In a dramatic challenge, Eze dared Wike to publish a political autobiography without prominently mentioning Amaechi’s role in his political journey, vowing to publicly apologise on national television if Amaechi’s influence was absent from such a publication.

“I dare Wike to author a book on his forays in politics. I will publicly kneel down and apologize to Wike on national television if Amaechi’s name does not feature prominently in the publication,” he declared.

Eze further claimed that Amaechi had surpassed Wike academically, politically, and spiritually, while warning that history and posterity would ultimately judge political actors based on their actions and contributions to society.

The ADC leader also predicted that President Bola Tinubu could face electoral backlash because of the influence of individuals like Wike in his administration, accusing them of contributing to what he described as poor democratic governance in the country.

Wike had earlier boasted about defeating Amaechi politically despite the latter’s influence and support from powerful political and security structures, insisting that the former governor had lost political relevance.

However, Eze dismissed the remarks as “the outburst of a drowning man who has lost all organs of reasoning.”
