WARRI/Nigeria: In a major political development within the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta State, frontline aspirant for the Warri Federal Constituency House of Representatives seat, Capt. David Omatseye mni, JP, has officially stepped down from the race ahead of the party’s primaries scheduled for Saturday, May 16, 2026.

The decision was contained in a statement issued on Friday by Barr. Larry Mogbeyiteren, Secretary of the Capt. David Omatseye Support Team (CDOST 2027), who disclosed that Omatseye took the decision in alignment with the directives and position of the national and state leadership of the APC.

According to the statement, Omatseye’s withdrawal followed extensive consultations with stakeholders and supporters across the Warri Federal Constituency, after months of vigorous grassroots engagement and promotion of what was described as a people-oriented legislative agenda for the constituency.

The statement noted that despite the growing momentum surrounding his aspiration, the former aspirant chose to place party unity, loyalty, and collective interest above personal ambition, stressing that the decision, though difficult, was made with “head held high” and with full confidence in the leadership of the APC.

“Capt. David Omatseye mni, JP in full and unconditional compliance with the national and state leaderships of our great party, the All Progressives Congress, APC, has stepped down his aspiration in the race and prepared to deploy his dynamic and well-structured support team to work with the candidate that will eventually emerge at the party primaries,” the statement read.

The support team further described the move as a demonstration of political maturity, sacrifice, and commitment to the broader interests of the APC, noting that the present political realities demanded concession and mutuality of purpose for the advancement of the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Omatseye, according to the statement, expressed deep appreciation to members of his campaign structure, political stakeholders, supporters, and constituents who stood firmly behind his aspiration throughout the period of consultations and mobilization.

He assured members of his support base that the political journey remained alive, urging them not to lose hope but to remain steadfast and committed to the ideals of progressive politics within the APC.

“He who fights and runs away lives to fight another day,” the statement quoted him as saying while encouraging supporters to remain united and focused on future opportunities.

At a strategic meeting held with members of his support team on Friday, May 15, 2026, Omatseye reportedly charged party faithful to immediately redirect their energies toward ensuring total victory for all APC candidates in the forthcoming elections.

He specifically emphasized the need to mobilize support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, Delta State Governor Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, as well as all APC candidates contesting senatorial, House of Representatives, and House of Assembly seats across Delta State and the country at large.

Political observers in Warri Federal Constituency have described Omatseye’s withdrawal as a significant development capable of reshaping the dynamics within the APC ahead of the primaries, with many commending the move as a step toward strengthening internal cohesion within the party.

The statement concluded with the party slogan: “APC, Renewed Hope for M.O.R.E Agenda.”
