ASABA/Nigeria: The Delta State Ministry of Energy and the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Delta State Chapter, are considering areas of collaboration aimed at improving public awareness of energy-related issues and strengthening communication between the ministry and residents.

The discussions took place in Asaba on Wednesday when the leadership of NAWOJ paid a courtesy visit to the Commissioner for Energy, Engr. Michael Ifeanyi Anoka, at his office.

Speaking during the meeting, Anoka said effective public communication is essential to the implementation of government policies, particularly in the energy sector where community participation and public understanding play important roles.

According to him, closer engagement with media organisations could support efforts to educate residents on government initiatives in the sector and encourage greater public awareness of energy-related programmes.

The commissioner also commended NAWOJ for its contributions to journalism and acknowledged the role of women journalists in informing the public and promoting accountability.

During the visit, the NAWOJ delegation proposed areas of cooperation, including public enlightenment campaigns on energy issues, media advocacy and specialised training for journalists covering developments in the energy sector.

The association also briefed the commissioner on preparations for its forthcoming Annual Media Week, which is expected to focus on issues affecting journalism, public communication and professional ethics.

Speaking on behalf of the delegation, NAWOJ officials said stronger collaboration between government institutions and the media would improve public access to information and encourage greater understanding of government policies and programmes.

The meeting ended with both parties expressing willingness to continue discussions on possible areas of cooperation aimed at enhancing public communication on energy-related matters in Delta State.
