ASABA/Nigeria: Condolences have continued to pour in following the death of veteran journalist and News Direct Delta State Correspondent, Comrade Dave Okpogadie, with Governor Sheriff Oborevwori describing his passing as a painful loss to the journalism profession and the state.
Okpogadie died on Saturday after a prolonged battle with jaw cancer, ending a journalism career that earned him recognition among colleagues and media stakeholders in Delta State.
Reacting to the development, Governor Oborevwori said the late journalist left behind a legacy of commitment to ethical journalism and public service. In a condolence message conveyed through his Chief Press Secretary, Sir Festus Ahon, the governor extended sympathies to the bereaved family, the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Delta State Council, and members of the media fraternity.
The governor noted that Okpogadie remained dedicated to his profession despite his health challenges and said his perseverance during his illness reflected remarkable strength of character.
He described the deceased as a journalist whose professional conduct and commitment to factual reporting earned him the respect of colleagues and members of the public, adding that his absence would be deeply felt within the state’s media community.
Oborevwori prayed for the peaceful repose of the late journalist’s soul and asked God to grant his family, friends and professional associates the strength to cope with the loss.
