EBEDEI/Nigeria: Anger and frustration boiled over in Adonishaka community, Ebedei, Ukwuani Local Government Area of Delta State, on Tuesday, February 4, 2026, as residents staged a protest against Platform Petroleum Limited over what they described as unfair treatment of workers and the dismissal of one of their own.
The protest was triggered by the sack of Mr. Evans Ossai, a driver and community indigene, whose dismissal residents described as provocative and deeply offensive to the host community.
According to community members, Ossai was among workers dismissed after raising concerns over poor remuneration and welfare conditions. His removal, they said, symbolised a broader pattern of neglect and disregard for the welfare of local employees.
Led by the oil and gas chairman of the community, Mr. Eseh Ifeanyi, protesters accused the company of exploiting their land while offering little in return in terms of jobs, welfare or social benefits.
Women, youths and elders marched through the community carrying placards and staging symbolic displays to express their grievances, insisting that workers operate under harsh conditions without adequate safety equipment or basic amenities.
Despite the presence of security operatives, the protesters remained peaceful but resolute, insisting on justice for Ossai and improved conditions for all workers.
Their demands included the immediate reinstatement of the dismissed worker, better healthcare and financial benefits for staff, and safer working environments.
As of press time, the company had yet to respond, leaving residents uncertain about whether dialogue or further confrontation would follow.
