ABUJA/Nigeria: Chief Press Secretary to the Delta State Governor, Sir Festus Ahon, has described the just-concluded South-South Zonal Congress of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as a defining moment for the region, marked by unity, consolidation, and renewed political strength.
Speaking with journalists shortly after the congress, Ahon expressed gratitude for the peaceful conduct of the exercise, noting that the gathering represents a turning point in the political evolution of the South-South.
According to him, the congress signals a new era of cooperation and alignment among the states in the region, as leaders rally under a common platform to pursue shared aspirations.
“This is a congress of unity and consolidation. After a very long time, the South-South zone is coming together under one political party to actualize the aspirations and dreams of the people,” Ahon said.
He commended governors and key political figures across the zone for demonstrating what he described as foresight and statesmanship in fostering cohesion within the APC ahead of future electoral contests.
Ahon emphasized that the emerging alignment of South-South states with the ruling party at the center reflects a strategic decision aimed at enhancing the region’s access to development opportunities and strengthening its influence in national governance.
“As a zone that contributes significantly to the nation’s economy, it is only proper that we align with the government at the center to maximize opportunities for development of the region,” he stated.
He further urged the newly elected zonal executives to sustain the spirit of unity achieved at the congress, stressing the need for peace, collaboration, and inclusiveness in managing party affairs.
“They must work in unity and ensure that peace and harmony prevail. It is only through unity that we can achieve our collective goals and deliver the zone politically,” he added.
Highlighting the scale of participation, Ahon noted that the congress attracted governors from across the South-South, the President of the Senate, members of the National Assembly, state legislators, and other critical stakeholders.
He said the presence of such high-profile political actors underscores the growing cohesion within the region and a collective commitment to advancing its interests through a unified political platform.
The congress, widely regarded as a milestone for the APC in the South-South, concluded without incident, with stakeholders expressing optimism about the party’s prospects and the region’s political future.
