EFFURUN/Nigeria: The Federal University of Petroleum Resources, Effurun, on Monday added a new facility to its student welfare infrastructure as Senator Ede Dafinone commissioned the Students’ Union Government (SUG) Relaxation Centre, applauding the initiative as a symbol of purposeful leadership and innovation by the student body.
The project was executed by the 13th SUG Administration under the leadership of Comrade Edemakiota Etiosa Oghenemaro. Speaking at the ceremony, the Delta Central senator described the centre as “a clear testament to the creativity, dedication and commitment of the student leadership to enhancing campus life and student welfare.”
Dafinone recalled that the SUG leadership had visited him two months earlier to express appreciation for his interventions at the university, including the ongoing construction of an ultra-modern 50-bedroom hostel. He said the visit provided the opportunity for the students to invite him to commission their projects on campus.
“It is especially gratifying to recall that two months ago, the SUG leadership paid me a courtesy visit to express appreciation for my contributions to FUPRE, including the ongoing construction of an ultra-modern 50-bedroom hostel,” the senator said. “During that visit, I was invited to commission their student-led projects on campus, and I was pleased to honour that invitation today.”
Reaffirming his commitment to youth development, Dafinone said investments in student welfare and leadership training remained central to institutional growth.
He noted that both the Relaxation Centre and the hostel project reflected a shared resolve to empower young leaders, improve student welfare and strengthen the university’s infrastructure.
“I am delighted to support youth-driven initiatives and purposeful leadership,” he added.
Commending the SUG leadership and the wider student community for the successful delivery of the project, the senator described their effort as inspiring and urged them to sustain high standards of service and excellence.
“I commend Comr. Edemaki Ota Etiosa, the SUG leadership, and all the students who contributed to the successful delivery of this project. Your dedication is inspiring,” he said.
The newly commissioned Relaxation Centre is expected to provide a hub for recreation and social interaction for students, further complementing FUPRE’s ongoing infrastructural development drive.
