ASABA/Nigeria: Senator representing Delta Central Senatorial District, Senator Ede Dafinone, has called on Deltans to place the collective interest of the state above ethnic, cultural and political differences as Delta marks its 35th anniversary.
Dafinone made the call in a goodwill message in which he congratulated the Governor of Delta State, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, the government and people of the state, and the Urhobo people on the anniversary.
The senator described the 35th anniversary as an important milestone in the history of Delta State and an opportunity for the people to reflect on the progress made since its creation while renewing their commitment to peace, unity and sustainable development.
He urged Deltans to strengthen the bonds that exist among the various ethnic groups and communities in the state, stressing that diversity should be treated as an asset rather than a source of division.
According to him, the different communities that make up Delta have contributed in varying ways to the development of the state, making mutual respect and understanding essential to its continued progress.
Dafinone said Deltans should continue to support one another and encourage healthy competition in ideas, enterprise and development, provided such competition is directed towards advancing the common good.
He described Delta as “one big heart and one big family”, saying the people must continue to work together despite their differences and ensure that sectional interests do not undermine the broader aspirations of the state.
The lawmaker also urged citizens to sustain the culture of peaceful coexistence and cooperation, noting that the future development of Delta would depend largely on the willingness of its people to work collectively.
While commending Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for his leadership, Dafinone called on Deltans to support efforts aimed at building a more united and prosperous state.
He said the anniversary should not only be a celebration of the past 35 years but also a moment to renew the commitment to creating better opportunities and a stronger future for generations to come.
Dafinone wished Delta State continued growth, prosperity and enduring peace, expressing confidence that a united citizenry would help position the state for greater development in the years ahead.
