ASABA/Nigeria: The Delta State Government has begun a three-day period of official mourning for former Governor Dr. Emmanuel Eweta Uduaghan, with public institutions directed to fly their flags at half-mast in recognition of his years of service to the state.
The directive, issued by Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and conveyed in a statement signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Kingsley Emu, took effect on Monday, October 19, 2026, following the former governor’s death at the age of 71.
Under the arrangement, flags on public buildings across Delta State are to remain at half-mast throughout the mourning period as a mark of respect for the former governor.
Uduaghan, who would have turned 72 on October 22, governed Delta State from May 2007 to May 2015, completing two terms in office.
Before his election as governor, he served as Commissioner for Health from 1999 to 2003 and Secretary to the State Government from 2003 to 2007.
His administration featured programmes and policies focused on infrastructure, healthcare delivery, human capital development and economic diversification, including the Delta Beyond Oil initiative.
The state government’s declaration provides an official period of mourning for a former leader whose eight years in office formed a significant chapter in Delta State’s political history.
