ASABA/Nigeria: The Delta State Police Command has arrested 202 suspects in a sweeping intelligence-led operation targeting criminal hideouts, brothels and suspected illicit drug dens across the Asaba metropolis, in what authorities described as a sustained offensive against crime and criminality in the state.
The Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, who disclosed this in a statement issued on Sunday in Asaba, said the operation was carried out on Saturday, July 4, 2026, under the leadership of the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the Department of Operations. He explained that the raid was based on credible intelligence generated by the State Intelligence Department (SID), which identified several locations allegedly serving as safe havens for criminal activities.
According to the statement, the coordinated operation led to the arrest of 202 suspects, comprising 102 males and 100 females, over alleged offences ranging from the operation of brothels to the possession and sale of suspected illicit drugs, as well as other related criminal activities.
The police also impounded five motor vehicles, 10 tricycles and 10 motorcycles for alleged violations of extant traffic regulations, the Delta State Government’s restrictions on tricycle operations and the prohibition of motorcycles in designated areas.
Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, said the operation reflects the Command’s commitment to intelligence-driven policing and its determination to dismantle criminal networks operating across the state.
He assured residents that the Police would sustain proactive enforcement operations aimed at denying criminal elements the opportunity to thrive, while strengthening security and public safety throughout Delta State.
The Commissioner further appealed to members of the public to continue partnering with the Police by providing credible and timely information that would assist security agencies in preventing and combating crime.
The latest raid forms part of the Delta State Police Command’s ongoing strategy to intensify surveillance, disrupt criminal activities and reinforce law enforcement efforts across the state.
