Delta State Government Pledges Strong Alliance with NAPTIP to Combat Human Trafficking

ASABA/Nigeria: In a bid to tackle the pressing issue of human trafficking, the Delta State Government has announced plans to forge a robust partnership with the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP).

During a recent courtesy visit by the Benin Zonal Command of NAPTIP to her office in Asaba, the state capital, Ms. Orode Uduaghan, the State Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs, Community Support Services, and Girl-Child Development, underscored the state’s commitment to this cause.

“Delta State is deeply troubled by its high ranking in human trafficking cases, second only to Edo State,” Ms. Uduaghan stated, emphasizing the imperative for collective action to eradicate this menace.

Mr. Nduka Nwanwenne, the Zonal Commander of NAPTIP, echoed this urgency, stressing the need to establish a Zonal office and a Safe house for rescued victims.

During the meeting, the Zonal Commander apprised the government of the prevalence of human trafficking in the state, pinpointing Ika South as the most affected Local Government Area, followed by Ika Northeast, Ethiope East, and Warri North.

The collaborative effort between the Delta State Government and NAPTIP aims to combat these criminal activities and provide a secure environment for victims within the state.

Among the attendees at the meeting were the Permanent Secretary, Mr. Wilson Chukwuka, Director of Humanitarian Affairs, Sir Stanley Rapu, and other key stakeholders.
