Delta State Governor Committed to Health Sector Revitalization, Says DSOB Chief

ASABA/Nigeria: Barrister Latimore Oghenesivbe, the Chief Executive Officer of Delta State Orientation Bureau (DSOB), has affirmed Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s unwavering commitment to revitalizing the health sector. He made this known during an advocacy visit by the Executive Director of Delta State Primary Health Care Development Agency (DSPHCDA), alongside partners from the World Health Organisation (WHO) and United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF).

Oghenesivbe praised Governor Oborevwori for prioritizing healthcare under his Realistic Reforms, citing substantial improvements benefiting all Deltans. He applauded the governor’s swift action in recruiting additional medical professionals to mitigate the brain drain, especially among those seeking opportunities abroad.

Highlighting the Tertiary Institutions Students Insurance Program (TISIP), Oghenesivbe noted that Delta State leads Nigeria in implementing such a comprehensive healthcare scheme for students nationwide. He emphasized the state’s commitment to upgrading hospital facilities, citing the recent approval of over N3 billion for new equipment across three senatorial districts.

The CEO reiterated Delta’s emergence as a medical tourism hub, thanks to Governor Oborevwori’s efforts. He assured WHO, UNICEF, and DSPHCDA officials of the Bureau’s support in public awareness campaigns, especially for the upcoming human papillomavirus vaccination exercise starting in May.

Dr. Yinkore Paul, the Executive Director of DSPHCDA, expressed gratitude for the warm reception and pledged the agency’s commitment to administering the vaccine free of charge to girls aged 9 to 14, emphasizing its role in preventing cervical cancer, a leading cause of the disease in women.

The advocacy visit, attended by the joint management staff of DSOB and DSPHCDA, underscored the collaborative efforts towards achieving Governor Oborevwori’s healthcare vision for Delta State.
