ASABA/Nigeria: Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has emphasized the challenges facing Nigeria and urged the Church to play a pivotal role in fostering enduring peace, security, and development through fervent prayers.
Governor Oborevwori made this appeal during a courtesy visit by the Standing Committee of the Church of Nigeria, Anglican Communion, led by the Archbishop Metropolitan and Primate of All Nigeria, Most Rev’d Henry Ndukuba, at Government House, Asaba.
Expressing gratitude for the visit, Governor Oborevwori lauded the Anglican Church for its prayers during the electioneering campaign, stating, “I want to sincerely thank you for coming to pay this courtesy call on the government and people of Delta State. We are happy to receive you.”
Highlighting the state’s reliance on prayer, Governor Oborevwori remarked, “This state is a praying state and we believe in God. It’s only God that has helped me survive 38 court cases.”
Acknowledging the Church’s role as the conscience of the nation, he urged continued prayers for national unity, peace, and security, asserting, “It is your duty to continue to pray for the government for us to govern very well.”
Assuring of collaborative efforts in areas such as health, education, and social development, Governor Oborevwori affirmed, “If the church continues like this, this state will continue to prosper.”
Archbishop Ndukuba commended Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for embodying Christian principles in governance and urged leaders to rule with the fear of God. He disclosed the Anglican Church’s purpose in Delta for a spiritual program aimed at addressing the nation’s challenges through prayer.
Furthermore, Archbishop Ndukuba emphasized the Anglican Church’s stance against doctrines contrary to God’s plan, including gay, homosexuality, and lesbianism, affirming the commitment to uphold divine principles.
In conclusion, Most Reverend Ndukuba assured the Governor of the Church’s support in advancing his MORE agenda, emphasizing a synergy between the Church and the government in promoting societal well-being and development.
