ASABA/Nigeria: Delta State is set to host an important public hearing on Tuesday, April 30, 2024, regarding a proposed bill aimed at reforming the Administration of Urban and Regional Planning, Urban Development, Urban Renewal, and Building Control activities within the state.

In an official statement released by the Chairman of the House Committee on Urban Renewal, Hon (Chief) Pereotu Oloye, it was confirmed that the public hearing will convene at the Press Centre, situated within the State Assembly complex on Okpanam road, Asaba, commencing promptly at 11:30 am.

“The committee will welcome contributions either written or verbal from interested organizations or individuals including Ministries of Justice, Urban Renewal, Land and Survey as well as Environment,” expressed Pereotu Oloye, emphasizing the inclusive nature of the proceedings.

Highlighting the comprehensive approach of the hearing, Oloye iterated, “All memoranda should be enclosed in sealed envelopes addressed to the Committee on Urban Renewal and marked ‘Delta State Administration of Urban and Regional Planning, Urban Renewal and Building Control activities Bill, 2024’.”

To facilitate oral testimonies, interested parties were urged to coordinate with Mr. Obey John, the Clerk of the Committee, reachable at 08034550025 or through visitation to the State House of Assembly Complex on Okpanam road, Asaba, between the hours of 9 am and 2 pm.

This initiative stems from the State Assembly’s recent decision during its sitting on Tuesday, March 26, 2024, wherein the bill was read for the second time and subsequently referred to the Committee on Urban Renewal for further legislative deliberations.

Under the directive of the Speaker, Rt Hon Emomotimi Dennis Guwor, the Committee has been tasked with delivering its report within a tight two-week timeframe, underscoring the urgency and significance attached to this legislative endeavor.
