ASABA/Nigeria: In a plot straight out of an action thriller, the Delta State Police Command intercepted a kidnapping attempt and orchestrated a series of operations resulting in crucial rescues and arrests.
DSP Edafe Bright, the Police Public Relations Officer for the Delta State Command, conveyed the command’s resolute dedication to securing the state and ensuring perpetrators face justice.
According to him, the recent operations highlighted the police force’s proactive stance in maintaining peace and safety within the region.
In the statement, he stated that on the evening of 08/12/2023, an urgent call shook the Nsukwa Divisional Police Officer, alerting them to a distressing incident along Ashama Anu-Ugbo Farm Nsukwa. Reports detailed the abduction of an unidentified victim traveling home on a motorcycle. The kidnappers demanded a staggering sum of Five Million Naira (#5,000,000) for the victim’s release.
Responding swiftly, CSP George Omunu rallied his troops. Armed with credible intelligence on the kidnappers’ ransom plans, a collaborative operation unfolded. Divisonal Patrol Teams, the Command’s tactical units, and local security forces joined forces for a meticulous search and rescue mission. The pursuit wound through the Egbudu-Akah bush, tracing the suspects to various hideouts.
Tensions flared as the rescue team closed in. Gunshots rang out as the kidnappers resisted arrest. In a bid to safeguard themselves and the victim, the police retaliated with overwhelming force. The confrontation forced the abductors to flee, leaving their captive unharmed.
Acting on intelligence at 1430hrs that same day, the operational team revisited the Egbudu-Akah bush. Their pursuit led to the capture of an unidentified suspect, injured from the earlier clash. Despite immediate medical attention at General Hospital Isheagu, the suspect succumbed to their injuries.
In a separate incident, the Raiders Squad, acting on credible intel regarding cultist activities, descended on Boboroku Community, Ethiope West LGA, at 1400hrs on 11/12/2023. The swift police action disrupted the suspected miscreants, causing them to flee. Nevertheless, a search of the area resulted in the recovery of a Single Barrel Cut-To-Size Gun abandoned by the fleeing suspects.
In another proactive move, operatives of the Eagle-net squad conducted a stop and search along Odurubu-Bomadi road on 12/12/2023. During the inspection of a motorcycle carrying two passengers, a locally made cut-to-size gun and four cartridges were found concealed in a bag. The suspect was promptly apprehended as investigations unfolded.
