Nabena Warns Tinubu: Stay Neutral in Rivers and Ondo Political Turmoil

ABUJA/Nigeria: A stern caution has been issued by Hon. Yekini Nabena, a former Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), advising President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to abstain from taking sides or intervening in the political unrest between former Rivers State governor Nyesom Wike and the incumbent governor, Siminalayi Fubara.

Nabena emphasized that the President, in his capacity as the father of the Nation, should refrain from engaging in political maneuvers in Ondo’s political landscape.

Rivers State has been witnessing significant discord between the current governor and his predecessor, Wike, due to conflicting political interests within the state.

In a statement issued to the press in Abuja on Wednesday, the APC stalwart stressed the imperative for both President Bola Tinubu and the ruling APC to uphold the Nigerian constitution concerning Ondo and Rivers State.

Nabena stressed that Tinubu, as an advocate for the political and social equality of all citizens, should not politicize the affairs of Rivers and Ondo states.

“It is crucial to recognize and honor the constitution of our Nation during these tumultuous times in Rivers and Ondo states,” Nabena insisted.

The APC member from Bayelsa further asserted, “President Tinubu, who believes in the equality of rights for all, must avoid playing politics within River and Ondo states.”

Highlighting the significance of adhering to the nation’s constitution in these situations, Nabena urged the All Progressives Congress (APC) to meticulously review the party’s constitution. He emphasized that the National Working Committee lacks the authority to dissolve an elected chairman and their executive in Rivers.

“We, as members of the APC, champion democracy over dictatorship. It is crucial to exercise prudence in our actions. The repercussions of hasty actions in River state could jeopardize our party’s future, potentially resulting in legal disputes similar to those in 2019,” Nabena cautioned.
