The Empowerment Items
The Delta State oil Producing Areas Development Commission, (DESOPADEC) has empowered youths and women in Ndokwa-west/Ukwuani Local Government Areas. The empowerment programme which was recently carried out in Obiaruku, by the Commissioner representing Ndokwa-west/Ukwuani in the board of DESOPADEC, Sir Kenny Okolugbo.
The empowerment which was divided into two groups saw about 50 Youths, receiving one new laptop, a DeskJet HP printer, and one new 2.7KVA tiger generator each. While the second group, was made up of 50 women who were giving various amounts of cash to help them in their businesses.
Speaking during the occasion, Sir Okolugbo said that the commission decided to carry out the empowerment programme to position the recipient for a better tomorrow. On the recipients of the ITC gifts, he said that they all have gone through months of training before they were considered for the award. He therefore called on them to be faithful in making sure that the equipment are put to best of use, and that the best empowerment to an individual is that which will prepare them and their family for the future.
He therefore advised them against the idea of selling the starter packs as they will be mortgaging their future.
Also, speaking, the commissioner of Women and Social Development Mrs Betty Efekodha who represented the wife of the state Governor, Deaconess Roli N. Uduaghan told the recipients to know that they are to use it to start a new beginning. She told the gathering that the government of Dr
Emmanuel Udughan through DESOPADEC is making sure that every life in Delta State is affected positively. Earlier the Commissioner representing Ndokwa/Ukwuani had told the gathering that Dr Emmanuel Eweta Uduaghan has shown signs of finishing strong in his developmental strides in the state, and the computer empowerment is part of the Uduaghan Human Capital Development Agenda.
At the reception, where 50 women were given various amounts of cash, Sir Okolugbo praised the women and said that the empowerment is to appreciate the women for all their effort to see that PDP continue to be strong in the area. He told the women that when it comes to voting they are always at the fore front, and they should keep it up.
Describing the gesture, Mrs Kate Akpotowho, Co-ordinator of ward 9 called the empowerment a wonderful one and thanked the governor and commissioner for remembering them.
Also Mrs Atagoshi Betty from ward 4 could not hide her feelings on the empowerment, and describe the programme as unprecedented.
The commissioner of Women Affairs and Social Development, Mrs Betty Efekodha who represented the wife of the governor, Deaconess Roli N. Uduaghan, called the programme a micro empowerment. And part of the first lady pet programme that has passion for the aged, farmer and women.
The occasion was witnessed by about 1000 persons who were happy with the empowerment. Those present at the occasion were, the Transition Chairman of Ukwuani Local Government Area, Hon Ochor C. O chor, the wife of the Deputy Speaker of Delta House of Assembly, Mrs Ganagara the immediate member of the board of DESOPADEC, representatives of platform Petroleum Limited, the kings of Ezhionum, Amai the kings-elect of Umuebu and notable figures in the LGA.
