Director of SIWES Urges Nigerian Youths: “School is Not a Scam,” Emphasizes Importance of Industrial Training

OGHARA/Nigeria: In a recent interview conducted at Delta State Polytechnic, Otefe, Oghara, Dr. Fedinard Okoro, the Director of the Student Industrial Work Experience Scheme (SIWES), has urged Nigerian youths and undergraduates, stating unequivocally that “school is not a scam.”

This statement came in the wake of the SIWES Quarterly Meeting held on September 21, 2023, at the institution.

During the interview, Dr. Okoro underscored the significance of addressing various concerns, including students’ and supervisors’ allowances, workshops, and industrial training, all of which were given utmost priority in the agenda of the Industrial Training Fund (PTF).

Furthermore, Dr. Okoro emphasized the need for a change in students’ attitudes toward education. He urged them to embrace industrial training as a means to acquire what he termed “Sabificate,” a qualification that signifies a comprehensive empowerment with both knowledge and skills necessary for the job market.

Dr. Okoro concluded his message by calling upon lecturers to actively engage in the task of persuasion and encouragement. He pointed out that the current generation of Gen Z students might not readily apply themselves to study and training without the necessary guidance and motivation.
