ASABA/Nigeria: The organisers of the 2026 Delta State Strategic Communication Workshop (DELCOM) have appointed communication scholar and media professional, Dr. Abamba Bosede Rita of Delta State University, Abraka, to the faculty for this year’s edition of the annual capacity-building programme.
Her appointment expands the workshop’s training team, which includes Professor Joyce Ogwezi of Dennis Osadebay University, Asaba, and the Chief Trainer, Professor Presley Obukadata, Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Southern Delta University.
Announcing the development, the State Coordinator of DELCOM and Director-General of the Delta State Bureau for Orientation and Communications, Barrister Wilfred Latimore Oghenesivbe, said the workshop continues to assemble experienced academics and communication professionals with proven records in teaching, research, media practice, leadership and mentorship.
He said Dr. Abamba, a lecturer in the Department of Mass Communication and Film at Delta State University, Abraka, brings expertise in journalism, political and development communication, digital media, media effects, public affairs reporting and media ethics.
According to Oghenesivbe, her experience in both professional journalism and academia will provide participants with practical perspectives on strategic communication, ethical media practice, digital engagement, crisis communication, strategic messaging and public affairs management.
He also described Professor Ogwezi as a respected communication scholar with a strong record in academic leadership and mentorship, noting that the combination of experienced trainers would provide participants with a balanced mix of theory and practical knowledge.
The 7th edition of DELCOM is scheduled to hold from August 18 to 20, 2026, at Hotel Benizia, Asaba, under the theme, “Strategic Communication in a Digital Era: Building Trust and Credibility for Democratic Governance.”
Oghenesivbe said the workshop is designed to strengthen participants’ understanding of strategic communication, leadership and public engagement while equipping them with practical skills for building public trust, enhancing institutional credibility and effectively communicating government policies and programmes in the digital age.
He explained that the programme is targeted at media and communication aides to the Governor, government spokespersons, information and public relations officers in ministries, departments and agencies, political office holders, social media influencers, bloggers and government media partners across Delta State.
The DELCOM coordinator also commended Governor, Rt. Hon. (Elder) Sheriff Oborevwori for sustaining investment in human capacity development through the continuous training and retraining of political appointees and civil servants.
According to him, the administration’s commitment to capacity building has continued to improve institutional efficiency, strengthen public service delivery and enhance communication between government and the people.
“The calibre of resource persons assembled for DELCOM 2026 reflects our commitment to excellence in capacity development. Participants should expect an intellectually stimulating, interactive and highly practical workshop that will broaden their professional horizons, sharpen their communication skills and enhance their capacity to communicate government policies and programmes with credibility, accuracy and impact,” Oghenesivbe said.
