DSUST Vice-Chancellor Leads Management Team in Visit to Orerokpe Campus: Plans for Rapid Development Unveiled

OREROKPE/Nigeria: In a strategic move signaling the expansion and development agenda of Delta State University of Science and Technology (DSUST), Ozoro, Professor Jacob Oboreh, the Vice-Chancellor, accompanied by his management team, embarked on a significant visit to the Orerokpe campus of the institution. This visit comes in the wake of the relocation of the Faculty of Management Sciences to the new campus, aiming to harness the potential for growth and advancement in the region.

The journey commenced with Professor Oboreh’s respectful gesture of paying homage to the traditional institution, starting at the Palace of the Orodje of Okpe kingdom, HRM Maj. Gen. Felix Mujakperuo (Retd) CFR, Orhue I. Welcomed by th Unu-Okpe, traditional prime minister of Okpe Kingdom, Okakuro Michael Affe, and the Council of Chiefs, Professor Oboreh expressed his reverence for the role of the Orodje as the campus landlord, emphasizing the significance of this ceremonial step before proceeding to the campus site.

During the engagement at the Palace, the Vice-Chancellor articulated the purpose of his visit, underlining the importance of acknowledging the cultural and traditional ties inherent in the University’s presence within the community. He emphasized, “It will be wrong for me to go straight to the campus site without visiting the Palace,” signifying the University’s commitment to fostering a harmonious relationship with the host community.

Acknowledging the warm reception, the Palace extended its blessings for the success of the University, Governor Oborevwori, and the people of Delta State. Subsequently, the Vice-Chancellor and his team were guided to the new campus site by the Council of Chiefs, where they assessed the groundwork laid for future development.

Professor Oboreh expressed contentment with the chosen location of the campus, affirming, “the location of the campus is very good.” He further outlined the imminent needs of the campus, including essential facilities like a Library, Health Centre, and Lecture Halls, emphasizing the commitment of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori towards expediting the development process.

Addressing concerns about the relocation affecting the University’s stature, particularly with the Faculty of Management Sciences, Professor Oboreh reassured, “the relocation will not affect the University in any way.” He highlighted the University’s plans to establish programs in engineering, information technology, and communication promptly, mitigating any potential impact.

Accompanying the Vice-Chancellor were key members of the University’s administration, including the University Registrar, Mrs. Stella Muoboghare; Bursar, Mr. Sylvester Okoh; University Librarian, Dr. Ogochukwu Emiri; Dean Faculty of Computing, Prof. Wilson Nwankwo; and his counterpart from the Faculty of Environmental Sciences, Prof. Festus Adewale.

The visit to the Orerokpe campus underscores DSUST’s commitment to regional development and academic excellence, laying the groundwork for a transformative journey towards progress and innovation.
