former Deputy Governor of Delta State, Chief Benjamin Elue

SAPELE/Nigeria: Senator representing Delta Central Senatorial District, Senator Ede Dafinone, has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of former Deputy Governor of Delta State, Chief Benjamin Elue, describing him as a symbol of humility, dignity and disciplined leadership.

In a condolence message, Senator Dafinone said he received with sadness the news of the death of the elder statesman at the age of 85, noting that Chief Elue’s life was defined by an unwavering commitment to the growth and stability of Delta State.

According to the senator, the late Deputy Governor exemplified grace and wisdom in public office, particularly during his tenure as deputy to former Governor Chief James Ibori between 1999 and 2007.

“Chief Elue stood out as a statesman who understood the weight of public office and carried it with quiet strength,” Dafinone stated, adding that his loyalty and steadfast support for his principal helped to sustain stability within the executive arm of government at a crucial period in the state’s democratic evolution.

He said the late leader’s conduct in office set a lasting example of constructive partnership and collective responsibility in governance.

“His approach demonstrated that loyalty in public service is not a weakness, but a strength anchored on shared vision and common purpose,” the senator noted.

Dafinone further described Chief Elue as a firm believer in democratic ideals, institutions and due process, whose leadership style promoted inclusiveness and unity.

“His legacy is one of collaboration over conflict, service over self, and progress over personal ambition. In an era often marked by division, he remained a symbol of unity and principled statesmanship,” he said.

On behalf of the people of Delta Central Senatorial District, Senator Dafinone extended condolences to the late statesman’s wife, Lady Esther Onyebuchi Elue, his family, the Delta State Government, associates and the people of Aniocha North.

He prayed that Chief Elue’s life of service would continue to inspire future leaders and that God would grant his soul eternal rest.
