ASABA/Nigeria: The Delta State Government has been plunged into mourning following the sudden death of Mr. Sunday Kotor, the long-serving Senior Special Assistant on Protocol to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, whose decades of service made him a defining figure in the coordination of official state functions.
Kotor reportedly died on Friday evening after collapsing at a private event. He was said to have been rushed to a medical facility where efforts by medical personnel to revive him failed, and he was subsequently pronounced dead.
Governor Oborevwori, in a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Sir Festus Ahon, described the late protocol aide as a loyal and dependable public servant whose contributions to government operations spanned several administrations.
“The late Sunday Kotor was wholly dedicated to his job. His passing is a huge loss, not only to his family but to the government and people of Delta State,” the Governor stated.
He noted that Kotor’s role went beyond routine protocol duties, as he became a central figure in the planning and smooth execution of high-level state engagements, bringing professionalism and order to every event he handled.
Oborevwori emphasized that the late aide’s consistency, institutional memory and mastery of ceremonial proceedings made him an invaluable asset to the government, adding that his absence would be deeply felt.
The Governor extended his condolences to the family of the deceased, particularly his younger brother, Mr. Conference Kotor, who currently serves as Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Media, urging them to find strength in the legacy he left behind.
For over two decades, Kotor was a prominent face in Government House, Asaba, serving as Master of Ceremonies under successive administrations, including those of former Governors Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan and Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, before continuing in the same capacity under Governor Oborevwori.
A graduate of Mass Communication from Delta State University, Abraka, he hailed from Okwagbe in Ughievwen Kingdom, Ughelli South Local Government Area of the state.
His passing has continued to draw tributes from across the state, with many describing him as a consummate professional whose voice, presence and organisational skill became synonymous with official ceremonies in Delta State.
