
ASABA/Nigeria: The Delta State Police Command has intensified its crackdown on perpetrators of the alleged sexual assaults in Oramudu Quarters, Ozoro, announcing the arrest of additional suspects as investigations into the disturbing incident deepen.
The Police Public Relations Officer of the Command, SP Bright Edafe, who disclosed this in an official update on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, CP Aina Adesola, said operatives of the CP Special Assignment Team (CP-SAT) had been directed to carry out a comprehensive investigation into the matter.
According to him, the directive from the Commissioner of Police led to a detailed review of available video evidence and actionable intelligence, culminating in the arrest of eleven additional suspects, including Samson Atukpodo, Steven Ovie, Ugbevo Samson, Afoke Akporobaro and Evidence Oguname, alongside six others.
He noted that the latest development brings the total number of suspects currently in police custody in connection with the incident to fifteen.
The Command clarified that preliminary findings indicate that the heinous acts were carried out by criminal elements who took advantage of the situation to perpetrate sexual violence, stressing that such acts are in no way reflective of any recognised cultural practice in the area.
Condemning the incident, the Commissioner of Police, CP Aina Adesola, assured residents that the Command remains committed to ensuring that all individuals linked to the crime are tracked, apprehended and prosecuted in accordance with the law.
“The Command will not relent in its efforts to ensure justice is served. All those found culpable will face the full weight of the law,” the statement emphasized.
The police further called on members of the public, particularly victims and eyewitnesses, to come forward with useful and credible information that could assist ongoing investigations, assuring that all information provided would be handled with strict confidentiality.
The Command reiterated its resolve to rid the state of criminal elements and restore public confidence, even as it continues to pursue all leads related to the incident.
