ISIOKOLO/Nigeria: The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ethiope East Local Government Area of Delta State has begun preparations for the 2027 general elections with the expansion of its local campaign committee and the establishment of 10 ad hoc committees to coordinate campaign activities.

The decision was announced after an inaugural meeting of the local government campaign committee, chaired by Chief Bernard Edewor, followed by an enlarged gathering of party leaders and stakeholders at Edewor’s residence on Sunday.

The meetings focused on strengthening the party’s organisational structure, assigning responsibilities and preparing its grassroots mobilisation framework ahead of the elections.

Edewor, who chairs the Ethiope East APC Campaign Committee, urged members and stakeholders to begin work on the tasks assigned to them. He expressed confidence in the party’s structure across the local government’s wards and polling units.

He also commended Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for what he described as his political experience and role in promoting party membership, unity and inclusion.

Edewor said party leaders in Ethiope East were committed to supporting President Bola Tinubu, Governor Oborevwori and other APC candidates in the 2027 elections, including those seeking seats in the National Assembly.

The local government campaign coordinator, Rt. Hon. Sunny Emeyese, disclosed that 10 ad hoc committees had been created to coordinate different aspects of the campaign.

The committees will cover finance, contacts and mobilisation, reconciliation, security, election management, youth mobilisation, women mobilisation, informal sectors and support groups, religious affairs, and publicity.

Emeyese asked ward leaders and chairmen to submit 21 nominees each for consideration in filling the committee positions. He directed them to forward their lists to the campaign committee secretariat or submit them directly to him by Thursday.

He also urged party members to put past disagreements aside and sustain cooperation within the local government chapter as preparations for the elections progress.

Chief Sunny Onoriode, Director of State Protocol to Governor Oborevwori, highlighted projects and programmes undertaken by the federal and state governments in infrastructure, education, social welfare and other sectors, which he said could feature in the party’s campaign messaging.

Onoriode also defended the economic policies of the Tinubu administration, including the removal of the petrol subsidy, expressing optimism that the reforms would improve the country’s economic outlook. His assessment reflects the position of the party and administration supporters; the wider economic effects remain a matter for assessment against relevant economic indicators.

He described the expansion of the campaign committee and the creation of specialised teams as part of efforts to improve coordination ahead of the 2027 elections, urging party leaders to remain committed to their assigned responsibilities.

Dr Fred Latimore Oghenesivbe, Director-General of the Delta State Bureau for Orientation and Communications and a member of the APC State Campaign Council’s Media and Publicity Directorate, told journalists that the local government committee had begun developing its campaign strategy.

Oghenesivbe said the committee would be formally inaugurated after the nomination process had been completed, paving the way for the commencement of its planned activities.

He also disclosed that, as chairman of the local government campaign publicity committee, he intended to involve media and strategic communication professionals to communicate the party’s messages through traditional and digital platforms.

Oghenesivbe thanked media organisations for their coverage of political developments in the state and called for balanced reporting as political activities ahead of the 2027 elections intensify.

The development adds to preparations by political parties in Delta State ahead of the next general elections. However, the campaign committee’s establishment and its stated objectives do not in themselves establish the party’s eventual electoral performance, which will be determined by voters.
