WARRI/Nigeria: The Chairman of the Delta State Taskforce on Environment and Sanitation, Hon Sylvester Oromoni (Sir), has warned that structures built on natural waterways in the state would be demolished by the taskforce to forestall floodings in the state.
He handed down the warning in a media interaction with news men in Warri.
He said that the said structures had been marked down for demolition and that adequate notices had been served to their owners.
Oromoni maintained that the demolition exercise was aimed at preventing the challenges of floodings in the state in the forthcoming rainy season.
He disclosed that the demolition exercise would commence in Asaba, the state capital on Wednesday 30, 2022.
“I may not be specific. Such structures in Ibori Golf Course, GRA, down to the new General Hospital will be demolished, no matter who is involved,” he added.
Oromoni had earlier warned Deltans to clear their drains and desist from the habit of emptying refuse into drains to avoid the problem of flood in the forthcoming rainy season.
On violation of the law on banning of commercial tricycles (keke) from plying on the highways in the state, particularly in Warri, Effurun and environs, he stated that he would discuss with the Commissioner for Transport before taking his next line of action.
