Governor Warns Traditional Rulers Against Shielding Suspects in Killing of Military Officers

ASABA/Nigeria: Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has issued a stern warning to traditional rulers in the state against protecting suspects involved in the killing of four military officers and thirteen soldiers in Okuama community, Ughelli South Local Government Area.

Speaking at the State Traditional Rulers’ Council Secretariat in Asaba, Governor Oborevwori described the act as barbaric and vowed that the perpetrators would face the full wrath of the law.

Governor Oborevwori emphasized that Delta State operates within the rule of law and human decency, stating, “No kingdom should shield the perpetrators of the dastardly act.” He highlighted the steps taken following the incident, including meetings with security chiefs and briefing the President, Chief of Army Staff, and other top officials.

The Governor urged traditional rulers to cooperate with security agencies to apprehend the culprits, emphasizing that no innocent person would be victimized. He also called for calm in other potentially volatile areas, stressing the need for peace and development in all communities.

Chairman of the Delta State Traditional Rulers Council, His Royal Majesty, Maj. Gen. Felix Mujakperuo (retd), expressed solidarity with the Governor’s efforts, emphasizing the importance of peace and security for the state’s progress. He called for a judicial panel of inquiry to investigate the crisis thoroughly.

Governor Oborevwori also briefed the Delta State Advisory and Peace Building Council, urging them to promote peace across the state to attract investors. The Council’s Chairman, Professor Sam Oyovbaire, commended the Governor’s peace-building initiatives and appealed to communities to embrace peace for the state’s development.

The Governor’s strong stance underscores the gravity of the situation and the state’s commitment to justice and security for all its citizens.
