Inaugurated Delta State IRS Chairman and Executive Directors Assume Duties, Vow to Enforce Tax Compliance

WARRI/Nigeria: The Corporate Headquarters of the Delta State Internal Revenue Service, IRS, witnessed a momentous occasion as the newly inaugurated Chairman and Executive Directors assumed their duties. The team, led by Hon Solomon Ighrakpata, took charge with a clear mandate to expand the state’s tax net and bring more businesses in the informal sector into the tax bracket.

Shortly after taking up their roles, Chairman Hon Solomon Ighrakpata addressed journalists, emphasizing the importance of tax compliance for all taxable adults and entities. He stated, “No man is above the law,” urging citizens to fulfill their tax obligations.

During their visit to various offices at the Corporate Headquarters, Hon Ighrakpata and his team reaffirmed their commitment to the given mandate. They highlighted plans to strengthen the Enforcement Unit of the Service to ensure the prosecution of tax defaulters.

“We will carry out adequate enlightenment campaigns,” Hon Ighrakpata asserted, “to help Deltans understand the significance of tax payment in achieving the needed tax expansion for the state and actualizing the MORE Agenda of the Oborevwori administration.”

Having served as the immediate past Deputy Chief Whip of the Delta State Assembly and Vice Chairman of the House Committee on Public Account, Hon Ighrakpata urged board members and staff to be prepared for the challenges ahead. He stressed that there would be no room for laxity and called for hard work and support from all, including critical stakeholders.

The team, confirmed by the Delta State House of Assembly on July 18, 2023, and subsequently inaugurated by Governor Sheriff Oborevwori on July 21, 2023, is composed of Dr. Frank Nwugo, Executive Director Operations, Kelly Oghenekevwe, Executive Director Finance and Administration, Collins Iwebunor, Executive Director ICT and Corporate Development, and Hon Orezi Esievo as Executive Director, Legal Services.

With the new leadership at the helm, the Delta State IRS aims to achieve the necessary tax expansion for the state’s development by tapping into the potential of the informal sector and fostering compliance among taxpayers.
