ELLU/Nigeria: Leaders and stakeholders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Isoko North and Isoko South Local Government Areas of Delta State have held consultations with former party leader, Elder Emmanuel Ogidi, as efforts to strengthen the party’s grassroots organisation ahead of the 2027 general elections gather momentum.

The delegation visited Ogidi at his country home in Ellu, Isoko North Local Government Area, on Sunday, August 23, 2026.

The meeting provided an opportunity for the party leaders to deliberate on issues affecting the organisation and administration of the PDP at the local government levels, with emphasis on unity, inclusiveness and effective grassroots mobilisation.

Speaking during the meeting, Ogidi urged party leaders to create greater opportunities for women to participate in the decision-making structures of the PDP.

He said a party that seeks to broaden its support base must ensure that women are adequately represented in its structures and activities.

“A gender-friendly PDP is a winning PDP,” Ogidi said.

The PDP chieftain also commended the commitment of the local government executives and other stakeholders to the party, despite what he described as inadequate funding and logistical support from the national level.

He appealed to the leaders and members to remain patient and focused, stressing that the party’s strength would continue to depend largely on its ability to maintain an effective presence at the grassroots.

Ogidi called for unity among the various interests within the party, urging stakeholders to place the collective interest of the PDP above individual considerations.

On the issue of the forthcoming hosting of a senatorial district activity, Ogidi directed that the matter be handled by the Caretaker Committee.

He said the committee would consult widely with relevant stakeholders before communicating its position on the matter.

The meeting is part of ongoing political engagements among PDP stakeholders as parties and political actors begin to position themselves ahead of the 2027 general elections.
