ISELE ASAGBA/Nigeria: A wave of excitement swept across Issele-Azagba Kingdom in Aniocha North Local Government Area of Delta State as the Delta State Government officially presented the Staff of Office to His Royal Majesty, Obi Ikechukwu Ugboma, signaling the formal recognition of his reign as monarch of the ancient kingdom.
The presentation ceremony, which attracted eminent traditional rulers, political leaders and respected community stakeholders, was performed by the Deputy Governor of Delta State, Sir Monday Onyeme, who stood in for Governor Sheriff Oborevwori.
The event turned into a grand cultural celebration as indigenes of the community trooped out in large numbers to witness what many described as a historic and long-awaited moment for the kingdom.
Top among the royal fathers present at the ceremony was the Chairman of the Aniocha North Council of Obis and Obi of Issele-Uku Kingdom, Obi Nduka, alongside several traditional rulers, chiefs and palace representatives from neighbouring communities.
Security operatives maintained a strong presence around the venue to ensure law and order, while the event proceeded peacefully without any form of disruption.
Residents who spoke during the celebration expressed happiness over the official installation of the monarch, noting that the kingdom now has a recognised traditional ruler to provide direction, preserve the people’s cultural heritage and promote peace and development.
Many described the occasion as the dawn of a new era for Issele-Azagba, with songs, dances and cultural displays adding colour to the ceremony.
The atmosphere remained festive throughout the event as guests and community members joined the royal family in celebrating the formal ascension of Obi Ikechukwu Ugboma to the throne of his forefathers.
