
LAGOS/Nigeria: Security and intelligence expert, Dr. Kabir Adamu, will headline the 15th Afrikanwatch Network Annual Lecture with a presentation on “Election Integrity and Security: Imperative for Peaceful Transitions” as stakeholders prepare to examine the role of credible elections in sustaining Nigeria’s democracy.
The announcement was made by the Editor-in-Chief of Afrikanwatch Network, Mark Orgu, who said the annual lecture will also feature the recognition of distinguished Nigerians for their contributions to national development and the promotion of social justice.
The event is scheduled for August 15, 2026, at the Naval Dockyard Limited, Victoria Island, Lagos, with Professor Andrew Obafemi of the University of Port Harcourt serving as chairman.
According to Orgu, the lecture is expected to bring together policymakers, security experts, academics, traditional leaders, professionals and other stakeholders to examine the relationship between election integrity, security and peaceful democratic transitions.
He said this year’s lecture will also honour individuals who have distinguished themselves in public service, academia, business, governance and community development.
Those billed for recognition include renowned chartered accountant Alhaji Abdulfatai Mabinuori Dawodu, MFR; Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Aresco Construction Company Limited, Senator Anthony Adefuye; Vice-Chancellor of Olusegun Agagu University of Science and Technology, Okitipupa, Professor Temi E. Ologunorisa; Dean, School of Postgraduate Studies, University of Lagos, Professor Abraham Osinubi; Director of the Distance Learning Institute, University of Lagos, Professor Risikat Oladoyin Dauda; and former Vice-Chancellor of Tai Solarin Federal University of Education, Professor Olukayode Oyesiku.
Others are the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Widescope Group, Dr. Oluwasegun Musa; founder of Gnosis Help Initiative, Barrister Olumide Kayode-Omosebi; Chief Financial Officer of Falcon Corporation Limited, Dr. Nelson Walter; Director-General and Chief Executive Officer of the National Space Research and Development Agency (NASRDA), Dr. Matthew Olumide Adepoju; National President of the Risk Managers Society of Nigeria (RIMSON), Dr. Abbas G. Idriss; Managing Director of Platnova Technologies Limited, Dr. Benjamin Oyemonlan; Executive Chairman of Ughelli North Local Government Area, Chief (Barrister) Jaro Movudu Egbo, KSC; Executive Chairman of Oriade Local Council Development Area, Lagos, Hon. Orgu added that the organisation will also celebrate one of its life patrons, Senator Anthony Adefuye, who turns 82 on August 14. He disclosed that Professor Tayo Popoola, Head of the Department of Mass Communication, University of Lagos, will deliver a special keynote address in honour of the elder statesman.
Also commenting, Chairman of the Afrikanwatch Advisory Council, Chief (Dr.) Nzeribe Okegbue, JP, congratulated the award recipients and expressed optimism that this year’s lecture would further promote national dialogue on democratic governance, security and development.
