WARRI/Nigeria: The Ibe-Serimowei of Gbaramatu Kingdom and renowned Niger Delta environmental and human rights activist, Chief Mulade Sheriff, PhD, has commended Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, for the successful groundbreaking of the N59.7 billion Lagos–Asaba Expressway Flyover at Uromi Junction in Agbor, urging politicians to refrain from contesting against the governor in 2027 and allow him to consolidate on his development achievements.

Chief Mulade spoke to journalists in Asaba shortly after the groundbreaking ceremony for the flyover project, which is located in Ika South Local Government Area of the state. He described the project as another bold step by the Oborevwori administration to address traffic congestion, improve mobility and stimulate economic activities in strategic urban centres.

The Niger Delta activist, who is also a development advocate, said he was deeply impressed by the governor’s pace of infrastructural delivery across the state, particularly the consistency in executing major road and flyover projects.

“We just witnessed the groundbreaking ceremony for yet another flyover in the state. Only recently he did that of Ughelli and today we are here in Agbor. This is going to strengthen economic activities in this area. He should be commended for coming to our rescue,” Mulade said.

According to him, the governor has clearly demonstrated preparedness, focus and competence in the governance of the state since assuming office.

“The Governor has shown that he came prepared for the job of piloting the affairs of our dear state, and he has never disappointed us,” he added.

Chief Mulade, who holds the traditional title of Ibe-Serimowei of the ancient oil-rich Gbaramatu Kingdom, also lauded Governor Oborevwori for his recent presentation of 65 brand new Sports Utility Vehicles (SUVs) to traditional rulers across Delta State, describing the gesture as a welcome development and a mark of respect for traditional institutions.

“Gentlemen of the press, I also want to use this medium to thank our Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, for the recent presentation of 65 brand new SUVs to traditional rulers across the state. He is doing very well and we are proud of him. He values our traditional rulers who are the custodians of our custom,” he said.

He noted that the scale and spread of development projects being executed under the current administration were unprecedented and cut across all senatorial districts of the state.

“With the unprecedented development we have witnessed in the state, we should encourage him to go for a second term to consolidate on the ongoing people-oriented projects. It is my appeal to our politicians not to distract him by contesting against a governor who has performed extremely well since he became governor,” Mulade stated.

The environmental rights campaigner further expressed optimism that more projects would be flagged off across the state in the coming months, with particular attention to riverine communities that have long suffered infrastructural neglect.

“We are expecting more projects to be flagged off across the state this year, with special focus on riverine areas,” he added.
