The President-General of Ndokwa Neku Union (NNU), Pharm Paul Enebeli had called the Biennial Conference of the Ndokwa People held 27 and 28 of December, 2013 a unique one been the first time the body is hosting the Governor of the state, who was represented by the Commissioner for Energy, Engr. Charles Emetulu
The President-General made the statement in his welcome address at the opening of the conference. According to him, history is been made, for the conference is to set a future standard on the way forward for the Ndokwa Nation on how the people will come together to discuss the affairs of the area and proffer solutions for proper development. He described the people of Ndokwa as the most cosmopolitan in Delta State as the area is made up of people from other ethnic groups of Ijaw, Itsekiri, Urhobo, Ika, Isoko, Oshimili and Aniocha.
Continuing, the NNU leader described the Ndokwa Nation as a buffer zone which absorbs the pressure between the state capital and the economic nerve centre of the state, this according to him makes the Ndokwa landmass a unique place in the history of the State coupled with the resilience nature of the people who are calm and friendly to live with, and he told the gathering that it is not a sign of weakness, but the people of Ndokwa believe that there are better ways to get what belongs to them without recourse to violent.
The President-General also spoke on the proposed Country Club/Secretariat. He likened it to some other clubs in the country, and pledged that every kobo donated will be judiciously accounted for, and thanked the family of Dr Atimo Odili for their donation of the acres of land.
Speaking earlier, the Chairman of the Local Organising Committee (LOC), Gen Mike Ndubisi, called the conference a success as the expectation of the organisers to gather the people of Ndokwa to discuss their future was made possible by the conference. Speaking to Ndokwa Reporters later, the General says that the low turnout of the elites did not take the shine off the event, but shows that the youths in Ndokwa are ready to see to the future development of the area. However, he says his expectations were not met as he was expecting larger crowd and each community and local government coming with their dance troupes. But again, he was made to know that based on previous experiences the turnout for the events was a huge success.
Also speaking at the occasion, the chairman of the event, General Alabi Isama berated the elites of Ndokwa nation for not have regard for time and the elders. He praised the elder men, especially the Royal fathers who were on time even before the organisers.
General Alabi Isama, says the Ndokwa Land have a lot to be done, again sighting, the issue of the Royal fathers coming to an events before their subjects, that shows a lot is not right and it means the people of Ndokwa had not started. He thanked the organisers lead by General Ndubisi for getting the Ndokwa people who pride themselves as republicans together for the events. The retired army General called on the people of Ndokwa to change their ways of doing things to think and work like democrats.
