UGOLO/Nigeria: Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori has celebrated Pastor Edewor Egedegbe’s 60th birthday, describing the clergyman’s life as a testimony to divine grace, at a ceremony that also featured the launch of a book on building a more equitable society.

The governor, represented by Olorogun Dr Ebenezer Okorodudu, Executive Director of Projects at the Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (DESOPADEC), delivered the message on Saturday, October 10, at the Africa for Peace Centre, Ugolo, in Okpe Local Government Area.

Oborevwori congratulated Egedegbe on reaching the milestone, recalling that the celebrant’s parents had lost seven sons before his birth. He described Egedegbe’s survival and subsequent accomplishments as evidence of God’s faithfulness.

The governor also commended the celebrant’s dedication to Christianity, noting that pastoral ministry carries both the privilege of serving God and the responsibility of guiding others in their faith. He prayed for continued grace and success for Egedegbe as he advances in age and service.

Beyond the birthday tribute, Oborevwori used the occasion to emphasise the importance of responsible parenting. He urged parents to remain attentive to their children’s upbringing and protect them from influences that could undermine their future.

He particularly warned against the dangers of bad company and drug abuse, noting that such influences could draw young people into criminal activities and jeopardise their prospects.

The event also provided an opportunity to examine questions of values, leadership and social development through the launch of Egedegbe’s book, Value Rebirth: Pathway to an Egalitarian Society.

Chairman of the occasion, Dr Joseph Ambakaderemo, described the publication as a call for national renewal, urging Nigerians to pay greater attention to how the country’s natural resources are managed and distributed.

He argued that the pursuit of sustainable development must extend beyond the availability of resources to include ethical leadership, responsible citizenship and institutions capable of serving the public interest.

Ambakaderemo encouraged Nigerians to acquire and read the book, engage with its central arguments and translate its values into practical action.

Earlier in the programme, Pastor Ime Archibong, Resident Pastor of Winners Chapel, Uti, delivered a sermon on thanksgiving, drawing from Psalm 103:2–5.

Archibong urged the congregation to reflect on past experiences with gratitude, appreciate present blessings and face the future with faith. He said thanksgiving should be a consistent expression of believers’ recognition of God’s goodness.

The celebration attracted several dignitaries, including Assistant Inspector-General of Police Johnson Adenola, ACP Imade, ACP Aliyu Shaba, CSP Temi Agbede Zuokumor, CSP Godday Otobore, Dr Otive Igbuzor and Mr Monday Ossahobore, among others.
