ASABA/Nigeria: Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has used the 65th birthday of former First Lady, Mrs. Roli Nere Uduaghan, to draw attention to her years of humanitarian and social interventions, particularly those targeted at vulnerable people in the state.
In a birthday message issued in Asaba by his Chief Press Secretary, Sir Festus Ahon, the governor acknowledged Uduaghan’s contribution to philanthropy and advocacy during the administration of her husband, former Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan.
Oborevwori particularly recalled the I CARE initiative, which Mrs. Uduaghan championed while serving as First Lady, saying the programme was used to provide support and empowerment to people considered among the less privileged in society. Historical reports also document interventions associated with the initiative, including assistance to widows and petty traders across Delta State.
The governor also mentioned her concern for widows, orphans, inmates and other vulnerable groups, describing her public service record as one characterised by compassion and concern for people in difficult circumstances.
According to Oborevwori, the former First Lady’s activities had extended beyond ceremonial responsibilities associated with the office, with humanitarian work forming a significant part of her public profile.
He congratulated Uduaghan on attaining 65 and said the milestone offered an opportunity to reflect on the lives she had touched through her service to humanity.
“On behalf of my family, the government and people of Delta State, I celebrate with you on this special occasion of your 65th birthday,” the governor said.
Oborevwori prayed for continued strength, good health, peace and fulfilment for the celebrant, while expressing the hope that she would have more years to contribute to society.
The governor’s reference to the I CARE initiative is consistent with previous birthday messages in which he highlighted Mrs. Uduaghan’s humanitarian activities. In 2023, for example, he similarly recalled the initiative while congratulating her on her 62nd birthday.
Mrs. Uduaghan was married to former Delta Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan, who served as governor of the state from 2007 to 2015. Her activities as First Lady included advocacy and interventions directed at disadvantaged groups.
