ASABA/Nigeria: Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, has been appointed a member of the newly inaugurated Committee on Strategy, Conflict Resolution and Mobilisation of the All Progressives Congress (APC), constituted by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as part of efforts to strengthen internal cohesion within the ruling party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The high-powered committee was inaugurated on Wednesday in Lagos, reflecting the President’s renewed push for unity, inclusiveness and stability within the APC. It is composed of serving governors of the party, members of the Federal Executive Council and other key stakeholders.
Governor of Yobe State, Mai Mala Buni, was appointed Chairman of the committee, while former APC National Legal Adviser, Muiz Banire, will serve as Member/Secretary.
Governor Oborevwori’s inclusion underscores his growing national relevance and the confidence reposed in his leadership within the APC. Other members of the committee include Senator Adamu Aliero; Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum and Governor of Kwara State, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq; Chairman of the Progressive Governors’ Forum and Governor of Imo State, Hope Uzodimma; as well as Governors Hyacinth Alia, Umar Namadi, Bassey Otu and Abiodun Oyebanji.
Also appointed are Governors Uba Sani and Siminalayi Fubara; Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola; Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle; former Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello; and the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Political Affairs, Ibrahim Masari.
Speaking at the inauguration, Governor Buni thanked President Tinubu and the party leadership for the confidence placed in the committee, assuring that members would discharge the assignment with diligence, responsibility and a strong commitment to party unity.
He said the committee would embark on wide consultations and strategic engagements to develop a comprehensive, result-driven framework that promotes inclusion, addresses grievances and strengthens cohesion within the APC.
“The committee will engage in strategic consultations to develop an all-encompassing, productive and result-oriented strategy that will stand the test of time. We shall implement a system that gives everyone, especially aggrieved parties, a sense of belonging and renewed hope,” Buni said.
He added that proactive measures would be adopted to identify and mitigate potential threats to party unity, urging members to place the collective interest of the party above personal considerations.
President Tinubu had earlier emphasised the need for cohesion within the APC during the party’s 15th National Executive Committee meeting held on December 19 at the State House Conference Centre, Abuja, reminding leaders that the party was founded on the principles of progressive politics, broad participation and respect for diverse opinions.
The inauguration of the committee signals a renewed effort by the APC leadership to consolidate internal harmony and strengthen its organisational framework as preparations for future electoral contests gather momentum.
