ASABA/Nigeria: Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has commended the Asagba of Asaba, His Royal Majesty Prof. Epiphany Chigbogu Azinge, SAN, OON, for what he described as his contributions to peace, unity and development in Asaba Kingdom as the monarch marks his second year on the throne.
Oborevwori conveyed his felicitations in a message issued on Monday by his Chief Press Secretary, Sir Festus Ahon, joining the people of Asaba, the Asagba-in-Council and other traditional and community stakeholders to mark the anniversary.
The Governor described the occasion as an opportunity to reflect on the Asagba’s leadership and his contribution to the growth of the kingdom since his ascension to the throne.
Azinge, who became the 14th Asagba of Asaba in October 2024, has spent the past two years combining his traditional responsibilities with initiatives focused on community development, cultural preservation and social welfare. Recent anniversary activities have included the commissioning of community projects and facilities in Asaba.
According to Oborevwori, the monarch’s professional background as a Professor of Law, jurist and administrator has provided him with considerable experience which he has brought to bear on his traditional responsibilities.
The Governor said the Asagba’s tenure had continued to foster what he described as hope, progress and renewed confidence among residents and indigenes of the kingdom.
He commended the traditional institution for its role in maintaining peace and strengthening unity within the community, while wishing the monarch greater accomplishments in the years ahead.
Oborevwori also prayed for continued wisdom, good health and strength for the Asagba to enable him sustain his service to Asaba and contribute further to the development of Delta State.
The second coronation anniversary has been marked by a series of activities combining traditional, religious, cultural and development-oriented programmes. The programme includes community projects, a thanksgiving service, an anniversary reception and cultural activities at the Asagba’s palace.
The anniversary also comes against the backdrop of several development initiatives associated with the monarch’s reign, including projects aimed at improving community facilities and preserving aspects of Asaba’s cultural heritage.
Azinge’s emergence as Asagba was formally celebrated in 2024, with Governor Oborevwori subsequently presenting him with the staff of office in November of that year.
