ASABA/Nigeria: The Director-General of the Delta State Orientation and Communications Bureau, Dr Fred Latimore Oghenesivbe, has praised the Nigeria Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) for recognising the governance achievements of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori. Oghenesivbe described the NIPR’s endorsement as a testament to Oborevwori’s commitment to accountable and progressive governance, especially given that the state’s transformative projects have been undertaken without any external borrowing.
During a live radio interview on Saturday, Dr Oghenesivbe reflected on the NIPR team’s visit to various key infrastructure projects. Led by NIPR Vice President, Professor Emmanuel Dandaura, the delegation reportedly expressed admiration for the advanced engineering seen at the Obo River mega bridge and the 120-kilometre Ughelli-Asaba dualisation project, undertaken by the China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC).
“The Institute’s commendation aligns with the positive perception held by the majority of Deltans,” said Dr Oghenesivbe, noting that Oborevwori’s administration has financed these projects with state resources alone, through stringent fiscal management and accountability. He assured that Delta State will continue leveraging such prudent financial discipline to drive development forward under the governor’s MORE Agenda.
Oghenesivbe also highlighted the progress made at other significant sites, including the DSC roundabout, PTI junction, and Enerhen junction flyovers, all under construction by Julius Berger Nigeria Plc. These ongoing projects have reportedly created thousands of jobs for professionals, skilled, and unskilled workers, with the completed flyovers poised to enhance connectivity across Delta’s cities, towns, and communities.
In addition to infrastructure, Oghenesivbe noted that Governor Oborevwori’s administration is driving an agricultural revolution through initiatives like the Delta-COVID-19 Action Recovery and Economic Stimulus (D-CARES) programme, which has provided farmers and young entrepreneurs with funds, equipment, and agricultural inputs.
He further announced that the State Bureau for Job and Wealth Creation is processing applications to support an additional 2,000 entrepreneurs, while bursary payments have recently been extended to Delta State Law School students.
Reflecting on the NIPR’s endorsement, Dr Oghenesivbe said, “As a government, we are inspired by the excellent rating from the NIPR, the nation’s regulatory body for public relations. Founded in 1963 and chartered in 1990, NIPR’s quality assessment resonates with the widespread acclaim for Governor Oborevwori’s impactful administration.”
The NIPR’s commendation came after witnessing the quality of materials, engineering standards, and cutting-edge equipment at work across the state’s infrastructure sites. Representatives from Julius Berger and CCECC were on hand to address technical questions from the NIPR delegation. Professor Dandaura, in particular, praised Governor Oborevwori for embarking on capital-intensive projects without resorting to bank loans.
The commendation was announced at the recent NIPR Directors’ Conference and Retreat in Asaba, which ran from 4th to 8th November. Themed “Leveraging Technology and Data-Driven Insights for Digital Communications,” the conference drew public relations executives and professionals from across Nigeria, including Elder Emma Ogidi, former National Vice Chairman of the South-South geopolitical zone for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Certificates of participation were presented to Dr Oghenesivbe and other attendees, marking a high point in Delta State’s partnership with the NIPR to promote transparent and progressive governance.
This recognition by a prestigious national body underscores the positive impact of Governor Oborevwori’s administration as it continues to deliver on its commitment to transforming Delta State.
