ASABA/Nigeria: Former Delta State Governor, Ifeanyi Okowa, has urged All Progressives Congress (APC) leaders in Delta North to embrace members with divergent views and avoid actions that could deepen divisions within the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Okowa made the call on Friday at an enlarged meeting of APC leaders, stakeholders and party members from the Delta North Senatorial District.
He particularly cautioned party leaders against sidelining critics or other members, stressing that everyone within the political structure has a role to play in strengthening the party and advancing the interests of the people.
The former governor said effective leadership required listening to different voices and maintaining close relationships with the people, regardless of political differences.
“Our greatest responsibility is to listen, to include, and to remain connected to those we have been called to serve,” he said.
Okowa said the interests of communities should remain central to political engagement, adding that stakeholders should be given the opportunity to contribute to efforts aimed at building a stronger and more united Delta North.
He also called for reconciliation among party members, urging those who may have offended others in the course of political activities to offer apologies and encouraging aggrieved members to embrace forgiveness.
According to him, letting go of past grievances would create greater room for cooperation and unity within the party as political activities leading to the 2027 elections intensify.
“As we move forward, may we continue to lead with humility, strengthen our bonds of unity, and place the interests of our people above all else,” Okowa said.
