PDP Condemns APC’s Call to Impeach Rivers State Governor, Says it’s “Delusional”

ABUJA/Nigeria: The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has vehemently criticized what it terms as a “delusional declaration” by the Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State, Mr. Tony Okocha, where he allegedly called for the impeachment of the democratically elected Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara.

In a scathing response, Hon. Debo Ologunagba, the National Publicity Secretary of the PDP, denounced Okocha’s directive as “reckless and unwarranted,” exposing what he described as the “vile desperation” of the APC to undermine the will of the people and seize control of the state through coercion and bullying tactics.

Ologunagba pointed out that the individuals directed by Okocha to commence impeachment proceedings against Governor Fubara are not legally recognized members of the Rivers State House of Assembly, having defected from the PDP, the platform through which they were elected. He cited Section 109 (1) (g) of the Constitution, which mandates the vacation of seats by lawmakers who switch parties.

Characterizing the directive as “a brazen call for anarchy,” Ologunagba emphasized that such actions contravene the Nigerian Constitution, which stipulates that the government cannot be seized except in accordance with constitutional provisions.

The PDP further urged the Inspector General of Police to take note of what they described as “subversive utterances” by the APC Chairman, warning that such rhetoric could incite crisis and disrupt democratic order.

The statement concluded with a firm assertion of the PDP’s stronghold in Rivers State, asserting that the people are resolute in resisting any attempts by the APC to impose its will upon them.

The national leadership of the PDP expressed gratitude to the people of Rivers State for their unwavering support and urged them to continue standing against the APC’s alleged attempts to sow violence and destabilize the state.
