
ASABA/Nigeria: Operatives of the Delta State Police Command have rescued a 27-year-old kidnapped woman after a gun duel with suspected abductors, while also arresting an armed robbery suspect linked to a ₦600,000 POS theft in a separate operation.
The Police Public Relations Officer of the Command, SP Bright Edafe, who disclosed this in a statement, said the operations were carried out following directives by the Commissioner of Police, CP Aina Adesola, to rid the state of violent crimes and ensure the safety of residents.
According to the police, the victim, whose identity was withheld, was abducted on March 12, 2026, in Ibusa community and taken to a building site near Obosi River along the Ibusa/Ogwashiku Road.
Acting on credible intelligence, the Command’s Special Anti-Kidnapping and Cyber-Crime Squad swung into action on March 19, 2026, at about 3:00 p.m., tracking the kidnappers to their hideout. However, upon sighting the operatives, the suspects reportedly opened fire.
“The operatives responded with superior firepower, forcing the kidnappers to flee and abandon their captives,” the statement said.
The victim was successfully rescued unhurt and immediately taken to the General Hospital for medical attention, while efforts are ongoing to track down and arrest the fleeing suspects.
In a related development, police operatives attached to Owa-Oyibu Division arrested a suspected armed robber identified as Sunday Blessing following a reported robbery incident at a POS stand.
The incident occurred on March 18, 2026, at about 7:45 a.m. along Diffrey Road by Ebu Owa Market, where the suspect and two accomplices allegedly robbed a POS operator of ₦600,000 at gunpoint.
Following a distress call received at about 9:30 a.m., the Divisional Police Officer mobilised operatives who swiftly tracked and apprehended the suspect.
A locally fabricated Beretta pistol was recovered from him at the time of arrest.
Police said the suspect is currently in custody and assisting with investigations, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend his fleeing accomplices.
The Command reiterated its commitment to sustaining the fight against violent crimes, assuring residents that proactive policing strategies are being intensified across the state.
