UDU/Nigeria: Beneficiaries of the Delta State Widows Welfare Scheme have said the regular payment of their monthly stipends is helping them cope with rising household pressures and meet some of their basic needs.
The beneficiaries spoke during the scheme’s monthly prayer session in Udu Local Government Area, where they expressed appreciation to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for the payment of their August 2026 stipends.
The Executive Assistant to the Governor on Social Investment Programmes, Widows Welfare Scheme and Livelihood Support Unit, Elder Isioma Okonta, said the continued disbursement of the stipends reflected the administration’s commitment to supporting vulnerable residents across the state.
Okonta said the intervention had become an important source of support for widows who often bear significant family responsibilities in difficult economic circumstances.
He said the regular assistance had helped beneficiaries sustain their households and offered them a measure of dignity and hope despite prevailing economic challenges.
The beneficiaries, drawn from the 25 local government areas of the state, said the prompt payment was particularly significant at a time when the cost of meeting everyday household needs remained a major concern.
They expressed gratitude for the continuity of the programme, saying the financial support had provided relief to families dependent on the beneficiaries.
The widows also used the gathering to pray for the governor, seeking divine guidance, good health and wisdom for him in the discharge of his responsibilities.
They expressed support for the continuation of programmes under the administration’s MORE Agenda.
The Delta State Government had previously stated that the Widows Welfare Scheme was designed to provide monthly financial support to 10,000 widows across the state’s 270 federal wards.
