EFFURUN/Nigeria: Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, announced on Sunday that the state government is collaborating with construction giant Julius Berger to redesign and remodel the Effurun roundabout. This project aims to introduce a cloverleaf and expand the roads in the busy corridor.
Governor Oborevwori shared this update with journalists after inspecting the flyover construction at PTI junction in Uvwie Local Government Area. He expressed satisfaction with the progress, stating his confidence in Julius Berger’s ability to deliver on schedule.
“I am impressed with the work they have done so far; remember I told you at inception that the job duration is for 27 months and as long as we are paying them monthly, they will be able keep up with the time they gave to us,” Oborevwori said. “I usually pass here but stopping over and seeing things for myself, I am impressed with the work they have done so far and I know they will keep to the 27-month completion period they gave to the Delta State Government.”
The Governor emphasized the need to finalize the redesign at Effurun roundabout before commencing road expansion. “Without agreeing on the actual design at the Effurun Roundabout, work on the road expansion would not commence,” he added.
Governor Oborevwori praised Julius Berger for managing traffic flow effectively around the construction area by creating several diversions. “The other obstacle to the construction work is the contract they awarded to Transcorp Power for the relocation of high tension at PTI junction,” he explained. “They have done 10 pilings at the PTI junction, remaining 5. The contract has been awarded and some of those things will be imported for the purpose of relocating the high tension.”
He noted that much of the construction work was taking place at the contractor’s yard, ensuring that weather conditions would not hinder progress. “They are doing precast already and the rain will not disturb the precast jobs. What they are doing now is erecting the pillars and before the rain stops, the job would have moved on very well. Before the dry season, they would have gone far because the rain will not disturb Julius Berger,” Oborevwori stated.
