ISIOKOLO/Nigeria: Justice finally caught up with a 54-year-old man, Samson Nagboje, as a Delta State High Court in Isiokolo sentenced him to 20 years’ imprisonment for raping his four-year-old stepdaughter in a case that has been before the court since 2020.
The judgment was delivered by Justice O. Aforkeya of the High Court, Isiokolo Judicial Division, who found the defendant guilty after the prosecution established the charge of unlawful carnal knowledge beyond reasonable doubt.
The prosecution, led by Miss Phoebian Onomakpome, an Assistant Director in the Delta State Ministry of Justice, told the court that the offence occurred on May 14, 2020, at Eloh Compound in Ovu, Ethiope East Local Government Area of Delta State.
According to the prosecution, Nagboje unlawfully had carnal knowledge of his four-year-old stepdaughter, an offence punishable under the laws of Delta State.
The court heard that the matter was reported to the police shortly after the incident, leading to the defendant’s arrest and subsequent arraignment on June 8, 2020.
After reviewing the evidence presented during the trial, Justice Aforkeya convicted the defendant on June 19, 2026, and sentenced him to 20 years in prison.
The verdict brings an end to a six-year prosecution and underscores the resolve of the Delta State justice system to hold perpetrators of sexual violence against children accountable through the courts.
