SUPREME COURT VERDICT: Delta Speaker Hails Divine Approval for Governor, Calls for Unity in Governance

ASABA/Nigeria: Delta State House of Assembly Speaker, Rt Hon Emomotimi Dennis Guwor, has characterized the recent Supreme Court ruling on the legal disputes surrounding the Delta Governorship as a testament to divine favor towards the people and government of Delta State.

In response to the Supreme Court’s decision on the appeal presented by the APC candidate, Ovie Omo-Agege, challenging the outcome of the 2023 Delta gubernatorial contest, Rt Hon Guwor emphasized the unalterable nature of God’s will.

“God is very interested in the affairs of Delta State. He can never allow His glory to be taken away by man. This time in the history of Delta State, God has chosen His Excellency Rt Hon Elder Sheriff Francis Orohwedor Oborevwori to govern our dear state and He that oversees the affairs of man shall always protect it,” stated Guwor.

In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Nkem Nwaeke, the Speaker expressed relief that the legal battles had concluded with the Supreme Court’s judgment. However, he lamented the substantial resources and distractions incurred by the state throughout the process.

Guwor pointed out that considering Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s landslide victory in 21 out of the 25 local government areas during the election, the legal battles could be deemed unnecessary.

He affirmed that all attention and efforts would now be directed towards effective governance, urging litigants to collaborate with the Governor in building the Delta of their collective aspirations.

The Speaker congratulated Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, his Deputy, Sir Monday Onyeme, PDP faithful, and the entire people of Delta State for the victory, asserting that the ruling had significantly restored hope in the state.

Highlighting the importance of support for the Governor’s MORE agenda, aimed at improving the well-being of Deltans, Guwor emphasized the Delta State House of Assembly’s commitment to maintaining a robust partnership with the Executive for the overall development of the state.

“I want to assure everyone that as great partners in the Advancing Delta Project, the Delta State Assembly under my watch will continue to support the Governor in the onerous task of building a prosperous state. I enjoin every critical stakeholder, including opposition political parties, that politics is over, and it’s now time for governance,” declared Guwor. “Let us lend our support to the MORE agenda of the Governor, who is determined to take the state to the next level of development.”
