ABA/Nigeria: The Chairman of the Rivers State Teqball Association, Mr. Halim Zaccah Adebola, has said the fast-rising sport of Teqball is gaining significant traction across Nigeria, following increasing participation and investment by states.
Adebola, who spoke in a telephone interview from Port Harcourt, noted that the sport has witnessed rapid growth, with no fewer than 18 states taking part in the maiden National Teqball League held in Aba, Abia State.
According to him, the successful hosting of the league marked a major turning point for the sport, describing it as an eye-opener that has sparked wider interest among stakeholders nationwide.
“Teqball is becoming very popular in the country. Abia State has gone far in the game and currently has more than 25 Teqball boards, which were used during the first National Teqball League,” he said.
He revealed that the growing interest in the sport has begun to attract private sector investment, disclosing that the owner of Remo Stars Football Club has pledged to build a mini Teqball stadium in Ogun State to further develop the game.
Adebola said the proposed facility would serve as a major boost to Teqball development, providing infrastructure needed to nurture talent and expand participation.
On the performance of Team Rivers at the league, he said the state emerged as one of the standout performers, finishing second overall with two gold and one bronze medals.
He added that the team competed strongly across the categories, securing podium finishes in four out of the five events contested at the competition.
The Rivers Teqball boss commended the Abia State Government for successfully hosting the inaugural league, describing it as a bold step in promoting the sport at the national level.
He also lauded the Rivers State Government for its continued support to the association, which he said has contributed to the team’s impressive outing.
Despite the progress recorded, Adebola called for increased funding and improved infrastructure to sustain the growth of Teqball in Nigeria, stressing that consistent investment is key to positioning the country as a force in the sport.
