Let us be very clear from the outset: no seat in Nigeria’s Senate is a personal property. No position earned through votes belongs to the man who holds it, it belongs to the people who gave it to him. And when the people withdraw their confidence, no amount of propaganda, threats, or choreographed endorsements can save a failing senator.
So to Umukoro Wisdom Onodomerezi and the paid chorus singing for him, Delta South has heard you. And Delta South is not impressed.
You speak of performance. Then let us talk about performance.
Where is the senator when his constituents need him? When the people of Delta South cry out for accessibility, for dialogue, for a representative who walks among them. Where is the Senator? He is nowhere to be found. He has perfected the art of disappearing between elections and reappearing with fanfare when votes are needed. That is not representation. That is exploitation.
You speak of respect at the Red Chamber. But what good is respect in Abuja when there is no regard for the leaders, elders, and stakeholders of his own district? A man who cannot honour those who gave him a platform has no business demanding loyalty from them. Respect flows in both directions and Senator Thomas has consistently failed that test at home.
You boast of his scorecard. Then lay it bare. Let the people of Delta South see it, measure it, and judge it against their actual needs not against what his media team polishes and presents. The projects they celebrate, do they reflect the priorities of the people or the preferences of a man disconnected from grassroots reality? The dividends of his representation are they felt in the markets, the hospitals, the schools, the riverine communities that make up Delta South? The answer, loudly and painfully, is no.
And then comes the arrogance the breathtaking, tone deaf arrogance of declaring, “This is not a contest. This is a confirmation.”
Who confirmed it? When? In what hall? Under what mandate?
Delta South is not a monarchy and the Senate seat of Delta South is not a throne to be inherited, reserved, or barricaded until 2031. Democracy does not work that way. The constitution does not work that way. And the people of Delta South will not accept that framing not now, not ever.
To call those who dare to challenge him and loud voices is an insult to every citizen of Delta South who has the constitutional right to aspire, to contest, and to offer themselves for service. That right is sacred. It cannot be silenced by a press statement dressed in arrogance.
The truth that a Senator and his cheerleaders refuse to face is this: when a representative loses touch with his people, ignores community leaders, fails to align his agenda with the people’s needs, and becomes inaccessible to those who elected him he forfeits the moral authority to demand their continued loyalty.
Delta South does not need a senator who has lost touch with the people at home.
Delta South does not need a representative who commands stages but ignores stakeholders.
Delta South does not need performance on paper that the people cannot feel on the ground.
What Delta South needs and what Delta South has found? Sir Itiako Ikpokpo KSM.
Here is a man who listens. Here is a man who will show up not just during campaigns, not just when cameras are rolling, but consistently, deliberately, and respectfully in the corridors of his own community. Sir Itiako Ikpokpo does not need to be chased for an audience. He does not treat his own people as inconveniences. He understands that leadership begins at home, and home is Delta South. He is man who has done it before, even though being out of office people still clamour for him.
His agenda is not built on noise it is built on substance. It is enriched with a clear, people-centred vision to communicate openly with constituents, to legislate with purpose and precision, and to pursue laws and policies that truly reflect the needs, the struggles, and the aspirations of Delta South people. He will not legislate for statistics. He will legislate for life.
Where Senator Thomas has divided, Sir Itiako Ikpokpo will unite. Where there has been exclusion of elders, leaders, and critical voices, he will restore respect and inclusion. Where the people have felt abandoned, he will show up. Where the community has been taken for granted, he will empower genuinely, structurally, and sustainably.
This is not a gamble. This is not a political experiment. This is a deliberate, informed, and confident choice by people who know what they have suffered under absentee representation and who now know exactly what they want in its place.
