ASABA/Nigeria: Preparations for the 120th National Executive Council meeting of the University of Nigeria Alumni Association (UNAA) received royal attention in Asaba on Friday as the association’s Asaba Branch President, Dr Joyce Ugonma Ogu, led national executives on a courtesy visit to Obi Lt. Agbogidi Chukwuemekalim Onyemanaogame Ajufoh.
Ogu was accompanied by former Kano State Governor and former Minister of Education, Dr Ibrahim Shekarau; the 14th National Global President of UNAA, Dr Sani Sanusi; and other executives from the South-South Zone.
The meeting came ahead of the association’s NEC session scheduled to take place at Dennis Osadebay University, Asaba, on Saturday, September 19, 2026.
Welcoming the delegation at his residence, the Asaba monarch acknowledged the presence of the national officers and other UNAA members who had travelled to Delta State for the meeting.
Obi Ajufoh described Asaba as a hospitable city and urged the visiting alumni to enjoy their stay while contributing to the development of the university and the wider alumni community.
He also reflected on the influence of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, on his life and that of other graduates, stressing the importance of alumni giving back to their alma mater.
The monarch wished the delegates a successful NEC meeting and safe journeys to their respective destinations after the gathering.
Earlier, Ogu thanked the monarch for his support for the alumni association, describing his contributions as significant to the activities of the Asaba branch.
She disclosed that she was the first woman to serve as president of the Asaba branch in more than three decades since its establishment.
Ogu also briefed the monarch on the forthcoming NEC meeting and appealed for support towards completing the association’s secretariat in Asaba.
According to her, the proposed secretariat would be named after the individual or organisation that supports its completion.
She further disclosed the association’s intention to confer Life Patron status on the Asaba monarch.
Shekarau, who also spoke during the visit, expressed appreciation to Obi Ajufoh for receiving the delegation and encouraged him to continue supporting the alumni association.
He subsequently decorated the monarch as a Life Patron of the University of Nigeria Alumni Association.
Sanusi, the association’s 14th National Global President, also acknowledged Asaba’s reputation for hospitality and expressed his expectation of seeing the monarch at the NEC meeting.
The visit ended with a group photograph involving the monarch, the UNAA leadership and other members of the delegation.
