Warri Delineation Proposal Still Subject to Review, Not Final — Igban

Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC)

ABUJA/Nigeria: Stakeholder representative, Andrew Omagbemi Igban, has described the delineation proposal presented by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for Warri South, Warri North and Warri South-West as a working document open to review, insisting that all stakeholders have been granted the opportunity to study and respond to its contents.

Igban spoke following a stakeholders’ meeting held on Tuesday, May 20, 2026, at the INEC headquarters in Abuja, where the commission proposed the creation of new Registration Areas (RAs) and state constituencies across the three Warri local government areas.

According to him, the electoral body made it clear during the meeting that the document circulated to stakeholders was not a final decision, but a proposal requiring feedback, observations and factual submissions from affected parties.

He explained that stakeholders were specifically asked to identify areas they considered not properly captured and submit their responses to the commission.

“In the proposal submitted to us by INEC today, we were all given the right to reply or respond to any areas we felt were not appropriately captured. We are expected to reply to the commission with our reasons and facts on the subject matter,” Igban stated.

He further recalled that in earlier submissions made to INEC and the Office of the National Security Adviser (NSA), concerns had already been raised over alleged errors in the coordinates captured in parts of Warri South, Warri South-West and Warri North.

According to him, those discrepancies formed part of the issues that triggered protests in the Warri Federal Constituency.

“During the meeting, I stated that in our previous proposal and recommendations to INEC and the NSA, we had noted that wrong coordinates were captured in Warri South, Warri South-West and Warri North, which led to the protests in the Warri Federal Constituency,” he said.

Igban maintained that stakeholders would carefully review the document and return their observations to the commission in line with the consultation process.

He stressed that all parties involved are expected to examine the proposal thoroughly and engage constructively with INEC before any final decision is taken on the delineation exercise.
