ASABA/Nigeria: Residents of Delta State have been urged to prioritise personal and community security during the Christmas and New Year festivities by avoiding actions that could endanger lives and disrupt public peace.

The advisory, issued as part of a seasonal public awareness message by the Delta State Bureau for Orientation and Communications, stressed that the yuletide should be marked by responsible celebrations anchored on caution, unity and respect for human life.

According to the message, Christmas is a season of peace and reflection, and not one for fireworks, fights or reckless behaviour. It warned that unsafe celebrations often lead to avoidable injuries, loss of lives and property, noting that every life is precious and must be protected.

Residents were advised to celebrate smart by avoiding overcrowded areas, remaining vigilant at all times and promptly reporting suspicious movements or activities to security agencies. The message emphasised that festivities are more enjoyable when safety comes first.

The advisory also called on parents and guardians to pay close attention to children during the festive period, while motorists were urged to obey traffic rules and drive responsibly to reduce the risk of accidents.

Highlighting collective responsibility, the message noted that security is everyone’s business and encouraged residents to be their brother’s keeper by looking out for one another within their neighbourhoods and communities.

Deltans were urged to let peace, caution and unity guide their celebrations, with a call on all residents to work together to end the year safely and usher in 2026 in a peaceful and orderly manner.

The message concluded with goodwill wishes for a merry Christmas and a safe, prosperous New Year, reminding residents that responsible conduct during the festivities is key to sustaining peace across the state.
