Free Medical Outreach Brings Lifesaving Care to Ndokwa West Communities

Residents of Umuseti Utagba Uno receive medical consultation and free drugs during the three-day “Health is Wealth” medical outreach organised by the Umuseti Insight Project in partnership with the Kings and Queens Foundation in Ndokwa West Local Government Area of Delta State.

OLIEOGO/Nigeria: A major free medical outreach organised by the Umuseti Insight Project under the Umu Ezeti Townhall platform, in partnership with the Kings and Queens Foundation, has delivered critical healthcare services to residents of Olieogo and Umuseti Utagba Uno communities in Ndokwa West Local Government Area.

The three-day programme, held between December 19 and 21, 2025, and themed “Health is Wealth,” provided a wide range of medical services including blood pressure and diabetes screening, eye tests, tuberculosis screening through X-ray, general medical examinations, treatment, prescriptions and referrals. Over 300 residents benefited from the initiative, with several cases of previously undiagnosed health conditions detected early.

Community leaders described the outreach as timely and transformative. The Onotu Ukwu of Umuseti, Patrick Ogbedo, expressed deep appreciation on behalf of the Okpala Ukwu-in-Council and the wider community, noting that the programme had brought rare but essential medical attention to the people.

“This is a programme of a special kind for our people. We deeply appreciate all sons and daughters of Umuseti who conceived and successfully delivered this invaluable initiative,” Ogbedo said.

Preliminary findings from the outreach identified hypertension, diabetes and tuberculosis as the most prevalent health challenges within the communities, reflecting broader public health concerns in many rural areas.

Speaking through the Nigeria Coordinator of the project, Dr. Heelas Onah, the General Coordinator of the Umuseti Insight Project, Chuks Ododo, urged beneficiaries to take their health seriously by adhering strictly to medical advice given during the programme.

“We appeal to all participants to follow up on the medical recommendations provided, consult qualified doctors for prescriptions and avoid the dangers of self-medication and purchasing drugs from unverified sources,” he said.

Dr. Onah also commended donors, stakeholders and Umuseti community branches in Agbor, Port Harcourt and Lagos for their financial, material and moral contributions, while praising the Kings and Queens Foundation for what he described as its professionalism and effective collaboration.

The organisers attributed the success of the outreach to the dedication of the Umuseti Insight Project team and local volunteers who coordinated logistics and supported medical personnel throughout the exercise.

Adding his voice, Francis Opute, former President of the Ezeti Development Forum, lauded the organisers and called for the programme to be sustained. He stressed that access to healthcare remains a cornerstone of community development and advocated making the outreach an annual event.

In a concluding appeal, Ambassador Ododo called on the Delta State Ministry of Health to deepen its engagement in rural healthcare delivery. He proposed the strategic deployment of NYSC medical doctors to strengthen primary health centres and the introduction of regular community health education programmes targeting hypertension, diabetes and tuberculosis.

The outreach ended with positive feedback from beneficiaries, underscoring the impact of targeted, community-driven health interventions in improving grassroots wellbeing and development.
